Individualized Learning Plan
TLCI supports freedom of inquiry and program flexibility. We encourage our families to enhance their children's educational programs by incorporating a wide variety of activities, studies, and approaches along with diverse real-world experiences that best meet their children's interests, needs, and learning styles.
Our mission of learner empowerment keeps the focus of our efforts squarely on the individual. The ILP of one learner may be driven primarily by his or her interests and consist of trips to local museums and other public sites, hands-on activities such as kitchen sink experiments or helping to renovate a house, while the bulk of the program's academic resources may come from the shelves of the local library. The ILP of another learner may have a more academic focus with the bulk of the program of study derived from textbooks, special classes, our K-12 curriculum, independent study projects, visual and other media, correspondence courses, private tutors and classes. The consultant working with the family provides the expertise, guidance and long-term support to establish and successfully execute the learner's ILP.
While The Learning Community International supports families in pursuing an educational program based on the individual needs and interests of their children, families are required to maintain a record of their program establishing that their children are receiving instruction as required by law. At various intervals, the TLCI consultant conducts reviews of the ILP, offers encouragement and support, invites children to share their homeschooling activities and studies, and helps the parent and learner shape the Individualized Learning Plan for the upcoming year.
TLCI has built a reputation on our ability to facilitate an individualized educational approach to learning with integrity and success. In over twenty-five years of operation there have never been two identical transcripts. Every academic record is a unique document reflecting each individual's path of living and learning.
